Out of School Children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: A Policy Brief

According to UNICEF, an estimated 22.8 million children aged 5-16 are out-of-school in Pakistan. The Elementary & Secondary Education Department of KP conducted the Out of School children census in 2017 and reported 1,707,833 out of school children aged 5-16. Out of the total number, 1,137,182 are girls while 570,651 are boys which are approximately 20% in total. There are two types of out-of-school children the first is those who are never enrolled in any government or private school and the second is the dropout children. The census also shows that the more affected district in out-of-school children in district Lakki Marwat.
